Campoalegre is located in Huila , in the Subnorte sub- region , 22 km from Neiva at an altitude of 525 m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The municipality lies between the upper reaches of the Río Magdalena and the Represa de Betania reservoir in the west and the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes in the east. Campoalegre belongs to the unofficial but de facto existing metropolitan area of Neiva . The municipality borders Rivera and Palermo to the north, Hobo to the south, Algeciras to the east and Yaguará and Hobo to the west .

history

The territory of the village was settled in the arrival of the Spaniards from the indigenous people of Tamas . For a long time there was an indigenous village called Otas near the present-day location . Campoalegre itself was founded in 1809 after the site was donated. The place received the status of an Aldea in 1840 and the status of a municipality in 1860.

The main industries in Campoalegre are agriculture (especially rice , sorghum , coffee , cocoa , tobacco and bananas ), animal husbandry , pond farming and handicrafts .
