Guadalupe is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Huila in Colombia .

geography

Guadalupe is located in Huila in the Subcentro sub-region in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes at an altitude of 940 to 2600 meters, 151 km from Neiva . The municipality borders Garzón in the north, Florencia in the Caquetá department in the east, Suaza in the south and Altamira in the west .

population

The municipality of Guadalupe has 22,867 inhabitants, of whom 5222 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

The place Guadalupe was founded around 1715 under the name La Viciosa , the first church being dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe , after whom the place was later named.
