Konrad Lammers (born March 19, 1948 in Kiel ; † March 23, 2019 in Hamburg ) was a German economist and university professor . In his scientific work he devoted himself in particular to regional research and European integration .

Life

Konrad Lammers studied economics at the University of Kiel from 1970 to 1974 with a degree in economics. From 1975 to 1995 he was a research assistant at the Institute for the World Economy at the University of Kiel and was involved in the research group “Empirical Regional Research”. In 1989 he was awarded a Dr. sc. pol. PhD.

As head of department at the Hamburg HWWA Institute for Economic Research (1995–2007), first at the research department “Regional Theory and Regional Policy ” (1995–1998) and then at the research department “European Integration” (1999–2006). From 2007 to 2018 he was Research Director of the Europa-Kolleg there and had a decisive influence on research and research planning. In addition, he played a key role in shaping the diverse academic exchange, including looking after visiting scholars at home and abroad. In addition, he participated with great commitment in the postgraduate course “Master of European and European Legal Studies”. He also taught at the University of Hamburg , the Andrássy University Budapest and the University of Hanover .

The main research topics were European integration, the architecture of the European Monetary Union, theory and politics of cohesion, regional economy and regional policy, and economic development and integration in Northern Germany and the Baltic Sea region.

He was a member of the faculty of the master’s course “European and European Legal Studies”, member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning (ARL), member of the European Integration working group. V., member of the committee for regional theory and politics, Verein für Socialpolitik, member of the Society for Regional Research (on the board from 2000–2004) and member of the Regional Science Association. He was also involved as an expert for the European Commission, the German Bundestag, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, the Volkswagen Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and various European local authorities and German federal states.

In addition to his job as an economist specializing in regional research, he had a wide range of non-professional interests. For example, the culture of tango and dancing have been a passion that has shaped his personality since he was a student .

Konrad Lammers had two brothers. From his divorced marriage with Gabriele Wilke three daughters were born.
