action

Frans and Lisa have been living apart for 15 years. Her young son Jack works seasonally as a ski instructor in a youth hotel in the French Alps. On a snowboard trip with his girlfriend Alison, he drives up a tree. Because of the complicated fracture of his leg, he has to be operated on in a clinic there. Transporting them back to Brussels is a problem as they do not have adequate insurance coverage. So the divorced parents decide to pick him up in the French Alps. The film tells of this journey there and back with the son, now in two cars, very quietly and calmly. Despite the long separation, Frans and Lisa immediately encounter their differences. But now you can handle it calmly. Everyone lives in a new life, but that doesn't prevent them from treating each other with goodwill and sympathy. Her son Jack has long since come to terms with the situation. He has his own special relationship with each parent. On this trip, Frans and Lisa get to know Jack's friend Alison for the first time, and they accept her. This warm feeling of respect, sympathy and serenity is this kind of tenderness that pervades the entire silent and calm film and also reaches the viewer.

criticism

Gerhard Midding: Tenderness is an easy, if not a weightless film.

Josef Schnelle: In the new work by Belgian director Marion Hänsel, two former partners who have long been divorced go on a long drive. They have to pick up their son who was injured while snowboarding in the mountains. The breads are lubricated, memories are exchanged - refreshingly quiet, pleasantly calm.

Michael Mayns: As seldom in the cinema, even in small, independent cinema, the characters are normal, as lifelike as the ex-couple in the center of tenderness . It is so normal at times that the film always threatens to become too arbitrary, after all, normality, the average, is rarely a topic in the cinema for reasons that are not entirely incomprehensible. But thanks to her fine eye and two strong main actors, Hansel succeeds time and again in turning this normality into a strength and in showing what is special in everyday life.
