Suaza is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Huila in Colombia .

geography

Suaza is located in the southeast of Huila in the Subcentro sub-region in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes at an altitude of 990 meters, 155 km from Neiva and has an average annual temperature of 23 to 24 ° C. The municipality borders Altamira in the north, Guadalupe and Florencia in the Caquetá department in the east, Acevedo in the south and Timaná in the west .

history

In the area of today's community of Spaniards survived the arrival indigenous people of Andaquies . Suaza was founded in 1748 by Helena de Valderrama under the name Casas Quemadas or Las Quemadas south of today's town center. The place received the status of a municipality in 1842 as Santa Librada . Suaza received its current name in 1934.
