Isnos is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Huila in Colombia .

The Archaeological Park of San Agustín with artefacts of the San Agustín culture , which extends in particular over parts of the area of the municipalities of San Agustín and Isnos, is a Unesco World Heritage Site .

Isnos is located in the south of Huila in the Subsur sub- region at an altitude of 1700 meters in the Colombian Andes , 228 km from Neiva . The parish occupies about 1.81% of the area of Huila. Isnos has an average annual temperature of 18 ° C. The municipality is bordered by Saladoblanco in the north, Pitalito in the east, San Agustín in the south and San Agustín and Puracé in the Department of Cauca in the west .

history

As early as 1653 there was a small settlement on the site of the present-day place, but it was not until 1939 that the place was officially founded as San José de Isnos by Jesús Hermógenes Rodríguez. Isnos has had parish status since 1958. In recent history, the declaration of the Archaeological Park of San Agustín with artefacts of the San Agustín culture as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1995 is significant, with the component Alto de los Ídolos y Alto de las Piedras located in the area of the municipality of Isnos.
