The Altrhein Wyhlen nature reserve is located in the municipality of Grenzach-Wyhlen in the district of Lörrach .
Characteristics
The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council of September 18, 1975 and has a size of 23.4293 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 3.047. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 81278 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
Location and description
The Altrhein Wyhlen nature reserve is located in the municipality of Grenzach-Wyhlen in the Wyhlen district with a total size of around 23 ha. The nature reserve is a lake (17 ha) created by the damming of the Rhine, which runs from the Rhine through an elongated island up to two passages is separated. The island is planted with oaks and alders. On the north bank of the lake is a narrow strip of forest and on the east end there is a dense stand of reeds with adjoining willow bushes. It is a breeding area for numerous water birds and winter quarters for birds.
Protection purpose
No essential protective purpose was anchored in the regulation of 1975. The protection purpose of the nature reserve is now defined in Section 23 BNatSchG Paragraph 1 Nos. 1-3, whereby the reasons for designating a nature reserve are not limited to ecological or aesthetic aspects, but also extend to scientific, natural history and regional aspects.
