The Isteiner Klotz is a very well-known nature reserve and a complementary landscape protection area in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the natural area of the southern Markgräfler hill country in the south of the Upper Rhine Rift. In many international and national herbaria there are considerable stocks of the flora and fauna that are very diverse here.
The most striking point and namesake of the nature reserve is the Isteiner Klotz . This "Klotzenfelsen" or "Klotzenspitze" is located north of the village of Istein , a former fishing village. The correction of the Rhine , the construction of the railway, the construction of quarries and fortifications and the associated numerous explosions have changed the image of this prominent point significantly over the past 150 years. The naturally forest-free rocky sites have now shrunk to around ten percent. Due to the construction of the fortifications and their razing after the First and Second World War , both the flora and fauna suffered great damage.
The NSG is supplemented by a landscape protection area already formed on October 2, 1937 with a current size of 35.9 hectares.
The Isteiner Klotz is also part of a network of protected areas. It belongs to the FFH area Markgräfler Rheinebene from Weil to Neuchâtel , which has a total size of 1526 hectares. The 1476 hectare SPA area (bird sanctuary) Rhine lowlands Haltingen-Neuchâtel with foothills also overlies the nature reserve and the FFH area.
geography
The nature reserve with 25.5 hectares has its areas in the districts of Huttingen , Istein and Kleinkems of the municipality of Efringen-Kirchen , it extends from the "Klotzenfelsen" in the south over the "Grünberg" to the north to the "Buchgraben". The area is cut in two by the Mannheim-Basel railway line .
climate
The climate is characterized by high temperatures and low rainfall. The early and late frosts are rarer than in the plain, the Isteiner Klotz mostly protrudes from the autumn and winter foggy layers with significantly higher average temperatures. In summary, the area is balanced, warm, relatively dry, low in frost and with little wind.
Characteristics
The protection purpose is conservation (from the ordinance of the Freiburg Regional Council on the "Isteiner Klotz" nature reserve of October 16, 1986 (Journal of Laws of December 30, 1986, p. 485).)
- as a significant geological object of great scientific importance;
- as an area with largely natural heat-loving vegetation of great plant-geographical importance;
- as a location for rare plant communities and as a habitat for rare and sometimes endangered animal and plant species, some of which are only currently found in Baden-Württemberg, and sometimes even in the Federal Republic of Germany .
Flora and fauna
The nature reserve has very diverse and special forms of vegetation
- Downy oak forest (Lithospermo-Quercetum), starting at the rock to the north to north of the book moat with a lot of service tree , common pimpernut and bush vetch (Coronilla emerus).,
- Weißseggen - oak- linden forest on the west and south-west slopes of the Grünberg,
- White sedge beech forest ( Carici-Fagetum ),
- Woodruff beech forest ( Asperulo-Fagetum ) in the upper part of the book moat,
- Maple - linden- forest ( Aceri-Tilietum ),
- Robinia forests, planted in 1907 to camouflage the Istein fortress, have expanded and there are individual stands.
- Rock pear bushes (Cotoneastro-Amelanchieretum) on both sides of the book trench Malmkalk rock walls,
- White fescue rock corridor on the south-facing rocks of Malmkalk. The vegetation consists of a dry grass composed of pale fescue ( Festuca pallens ), mountain stone herb ( Alyssum montanum ), eyelash pearl grass ( Melica ciliata ) and white stonecrop (Sedum album).
- Trespen dry grass (Xerobrometum), this was first described in 1931 by Braun-Blanquet from the Isteiner Klotz, whereby this dry grass differs significantly from those at the Kaiserstuhl . The dry grass is composed of earth sedge ( Carex humilis ), feather grass (Stipa eriocaulis ssp.lutetiana), beard grass (Bothriochloa ischaemum), fiber umbrella ( Trinia glauca ), ball leek ( Allium sphaerocephalon ) and panicle knapweed ( Centaurea stoebe ) as well as dwarf shrubs, winter annuals and rare moss and lichen species.
The rare species found here include
- the common pimpernut ( Sytaphylea pinnata ),
- the ground-flowered sedge ( Carex halleriana ),
- the feather grass ( Stipa pennata ss. lutetiana) - the only occurrence in the Federal Republic of Germany - and
- the blue-green fiber umbrella ( Trinia glauca ).
On animals are proven here
- Amphibian
- over 80 species of birds
- 350 butterfly species, for example, blue eye core ( Minois dryas ) Brintesia Circe ( Brintesia circe ) and Samtbinde ( Hipparchia semele )
- 140 beetles, including the stag beetle , the black pill-turner , the jewel beetle , various large longhorn beetles
- 15 dragonfly species including Coenagrion lindeni, ornatum and scitulum
- Grasshoppers, including great spotted hornets ( Calliptamus italicus , Oedipoda caerulescens and germanica ), the sawhoppers (Barbitistes serricanda), the common sickle hoppers ( Phaneroptera falcata ), the very rare saddle insects ( Ephippigera vitium ) and the barnacles (Oecanthus pellucens).
- large numbers of arachnids and snails
- Bed bugs, including the murder bug and the border bug .
The entrances to the caves, tunnels and bunkers have been concreted over. There are only small entrances for bats and other animals.
