Wilhelm Messerschmidt (politician)

Wilhelm Messerschmidt (born November 12, 1887 in Wellersen , Einbeck district , † September 17, 1971 in Göttingen ) was a German politician (SPD). From 1947 to 1955 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament.

Messerschmidt attended elementary school and became a carpenter. He became a member of the SPD in 1906. In the First World War he was a soldier from 1914 to 1918. He then worked as an independent contractor until 1932. After 1933 Messerschmidt became a businessman. During the time of National Socialism he was arrested several times as a social democrat and placed under police supervision. After the end of the Second World War, he was a councilor for the city of Einbeck from 1945 . In 1946 he became mayor of Einbeck. From April 20, 1947 to May 5, 1955 Messerschmidt was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament in its 1st and 2nd electoral terms.
