In 1959 he went to the Clausthal University of Technology (at that time the Bergakademie) and completed his habilitation there in 1966 on tectonics and granite plutonism in a crystalline area in northern Greece. Since 1969 he was Professor of Geology and Scientific Council at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .
