Johannes Stets (born November 30, 1932 in Cologne ; † November 3, 2015 ) was a German geologist. He taught at the University of Bonn (Steinmann Institute).

Always studied geology in Bonn with his doctorate in 1960. From 1968 he was an academic senior counselor and director of studies in the university service in Bonn, completed his habilitation there in 1981 and was an adjunct professor from 1985. In 1997 he retired.

He dealt with regional geology, in particular the Rhenish Slate Mountains , especially the Hunsrück , and the High Atlas in Morocco . In the Rhenish Slate Mountains he worked particularly with Wilhelm Meyer (paleogeography and stratigraphy of the Paleozoic, tectonic history, recent uplifts). In the High Atlas he correlated with Paul Wurster and Andreas Schäfer the Mesozoic layers on the north and south flanks and examined the tectonic history in connection with the formation and breakup of the Atlantic in the Mesozoic. He wrote a book on aerial photography for structural geological studies.

He also investigated the Cretaceous-Tertiary border and the mass extinction in southern China at the time.

Most recently he wrote a monograph on the geology of the Hunsrück.
