NGC 5454 is a 13.1 mag bright lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type "S0" in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 343 million light years from the Milky Way and about 155,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxy IC 970 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on April 21, 1865 .
