NGC 5430 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb with a high rate of star formation in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 138 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 90,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 5402 .
The object was discovered on March 17, 1790 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
