NGC 5416 is a spiral-shaped radio galaxy of the Hubble-type Sc in the constellation Bear Keeper in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 279 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5409 , NGC 5423 , NGC 5424 , NGC 5431 .
The object was discovered on March 19, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "eF, vS, E, r".
