NGC 5436 is a 14.0 mag bright lens-shaped galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0-a in the constellation Bear Guardian and about 301 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered, together with the neighboring galaxies NGC 5437 and NGC 5438 , on June 28, 1883 by Wilhelm Tempel during a single observation.
