NGC 5443 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 86 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5422 and NGC 5475 , among others .
The object was discovered on April 14, 1789 by the astronomer William Herschel with the help of his 18.7 inch reflector telescope.
