NGC 5402 is a 13.8 mag bright radio galaxy of the Hubble type S? in the constellation Great Bear in the north star sky . It is estimated to be 141 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 5376 , NGC 5379 , NGC 5389 , NGC 5430 , among others .

The object was discovered on April 24, 1789 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "cF, vS, R".
