NGC 5385 is an asterism of about a dozen stars in the Great Bear . The object figured as a candidate for the remnant of an open star cluster . A photometric, astrometric and spectroscopic study published in 2004 by Carraro et al. shows, however, that it is more of a random arrangement of galactic field stars. Dreyer's entry in the New General Catalog goes back to an observation by John Herschel on May 5, 1831 as part of his sky survey.
