NGC 5376 is a 12.2 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBab in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 99 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5372 , NGC 5379 , NGC 5389 , NGC 5402 , among others .
The object was discovered on April 24, 1789 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "cB, pL, iR, vgmbM".
