NGC 5361 is a 13.9 mag bright galaxy of the Hubble-type S? in the constellation hounds in the north star sky . It is estimated to be 256 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5341 , NGC 5349 , NGC 5351 , NGC 5378 , among others .
The object was discovered on May 16, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “eF, cS, E sp small star”.
