NGC 5360 = IC 958 is a 13.7 mag bright lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 51 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 25,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5317 , NGC 5348 , NGC 5356 , NGC 5363 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on May 8, 1864 . Lewis A. Swift , probably without knowing the existence of NGC 5360 , described the galaxy during an observation on April 19, 1890 with “eeeF, pS, iR; seen only by glimpses “, it was added to the index catalog as IC 958 .
