IC 943 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 433 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 90,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5300 , IC 939 , IC 940 , IC 952 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 29, 1892 .
