IC 939 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 314 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 85,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5300 , IC 940 and IC 943 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 3, 1891 .
