The village is located in Western Pomerania , about 105 kilometers northeast of Stettin and about 25 kilometers southeast of Kolberg .

history

The village was probably laid out in the Duchy of Pomerania in the form of an anger village in the Middle Ages . It was first mentioned, however, in a pattern roll from 1523, in which "4 perde pawell Podewils to Szwartow" were listed. Schwartow was then owned by the noble Podewils family . On the Great Lubin map of the Duchy of Pomerania from 1618 the place is entered as "Swartow". Probably in the 17th and 18th centuries, Schwartow changed into a manor village when the farmers moved in with the manor ( farmers laying ); the village form of the Angerdorf was also lost. At times the manor was split into two parts. Schwartow remained in the possession of the Podewils family until 1738, when the then Major Peter Ernst von Podewils sold it to Margaretha Sabine von Galbrecht († 1749), born von Manteuffel and wife of the later Prussian Major General Moritz von Galbrecht . In the following time, the Schwartow families changed hands several times.

In Ludwig Wilhelm Brüggemann's detailed description of the current state of the Royal Prussian Duchy of Western and Western Pomerania (1784) Schwartow is listed under the noble estates of the Principality of Cammin . Schwartow was then "on the Poststrasse from Naugard to Cörlin ". At that time there were two knights Schwartow free outworks and knights seats, called the Kamekesche good and the Zandersche Well, four Kossäten , two pitchers and a schoolmaster, a total of 16 households ( "fires").

In 1842 the Schwartow landowner, Carl Friedrich Mahnke, bought the four farms that remained next to the estate and combined them with the manor.

Schwartow has formed its own estate district since the 19th century with an area between 506 hectares (as of 1864) and 522 hectares (as of 1925). The Schwartow estate was part of the Fürstenthum district until 1872 and when it was divided it became part of the Kolberg-Körlin district .

With the dissolution of the manor districts in Prussia, Schwartow was incorporated into the neighboring rural community of Garchen in 1929 . Until 1945 Schwartow formed a place to live in the municipality of Garchen.

In 1945 Schwartow came to Poland, like all of Western Pomerania. The residents fled and were driven out . The place name was Polonized to "Zwartowo". Today the place belongs to the Gmina Karlino (town and country municipality of Körlin) , in which it forms its own Schulzenamt .
