NGC 5477 is an irregular dwarf galaxy in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is an estimated 19 million light years from the Milky Way and belongs to a group of galaxies around Messier 101 .

The object was discovered on April 14, 1789 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
