NGC 5501 is a 13.9 likes bright lenticular low-surface-brightness galaxy from the Hubble type S0-a in the constellation Virgo . It is estimated to be 337 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on April 13, 1828 .
