NGC 5515 is a 13.0 mag bright spiral Seyfert galaxy (type 1) of the Hubble type "Sab" in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 349 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 130,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5536 , NGC 5497 , IC 990 , among others .
It was discovered on May 16, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, cS, R, sbM".
