NGC 5536 is a 13.6 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBa in the constellation Bootes the northern sky . It is estimated to be 265 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5515 , NGC 5541 , IC 990 , among others .
The Type Ia supernova candidate ASASSN -15gw is observed here.
The object was discovered on April 29, 1788 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, vS".
