NGC 5550 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb? in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is around 332 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 115,000 light years .

The object was discovered on April 4, 1831 by John Herschel .
