NGC 5569 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SAB (rs) cs? in the constellation Virgo in the north star sky . It is around 79 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 35,000 light years .

The galaxies NGC 5560 (above), NGC 5566 (in the middle) and NGC 5569 (below) captured by Galaxy Evolution Explorer

Together with the galaxies NGC 5560 and NGC 5566 , it forms an interactive trio known under the name Arp 286 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy pair belongs to the class double galaxies with inflow and attraction .

The galaxy was discovered on April 26, 1849 by Irish astronomer George Johnstone Stoney .
