NGC 5577 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Virgo. It is estimated to be 66 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 65,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 5566 , NGC 5569 , NGC 5574 , NGC 5576 , among others .

The object was discovered on April 26, 1849 by the astronomer George Johnstone Stoney, an assistant to William Parsons using his 72-inch Leviathan mirror telescope , and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
