NGC 5597 is a 12.0 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBCD in the constellation Libra and about 117 million light-years from the Milky Way center. It is in gravitational interaction with NGC 5595 and was discovered together with it on May 14, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who marked it with "Two, Np - Sf The following eF, 1 ′ diameter, nearly round. The preceding [NGC 5595] vF, vS, R, distance 5 ′ “described.
