NGC 5560 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SB (n) b pec in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is around 77 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 75,000 light years .
Together with the galaxies NGC 5566 and NGC 5569 , it forms a trio of gravitationally interacting galaxies with catalog no. Arp 286 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy pair belongs to the class double galaxies with inflow and attraction .
The galaxy was discovered on April 30, 1786 together with NGC 5566 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
