Willi Harwerth

Willi (actually: Wilhelm) Harwerth (born August 4, 1894 in Borby (today Eckernförde ), † January 4, 1982 in Bensheim ) was a German graphic artist and illustrator .

He studied with Walter Tiemann at the Royal Art Academy and Applied Arts School in Leipzig .

He then worked as a draftsman at the Gebr. Klingspor type foundry in Offenbach , where from 1936 he took over the heraldry , illustration and woodcut classes at the School of Applied Arts .

Harwerth created illustrations and book decorations ( vignettes ) for many fairy tale and song books. He also designed book covers .
