NGC 5548 is a Seyfert galaxy of type 1 with a bluish-white glowing, very compact core. Its spectrum shows absorption phenomena in the UV and X-ray range , which are characteristic of gas flowing out at high speed. NGC 5548 is one of the best studied Seyfert galaxies.
