NGC 5554 = NGC 5564 is a 14.4 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Virgo . It is around 337 million light years from the Milky Way .
It was first discovered by Albert Marth on May 8, 1865 (as NGC 5554 ). Lewis A. Swift's observation of June 14, 1884, in which he "sf of 2; a * midway between them “led to the second entry in the catalog under NGC 5564 .
