The film is a sequel of The Hills Have Eyes - The Hills Have Eyes , which in turn is a remake of Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes (1977) is . The work is a production by 20th Century Fox and was premiered on March 16 at the Nuremberg Fantasy Film Festival . action

A unit of the US National Guard is supposed to supply the scientists of Sector 16, a research station and former test site for nuclear weapons, with equipment in the desert of New Mexico. However, the warehouse turns out to be empty when the group arrives. The guardsmen Napoleon and Amber are assigned to guard the camp, while the other members of the force begin to search the surrounding area for the missing people. That something must have happened to the scientists becomes apparent when the guardsmen who have stayed at the base find a dying researcher and are shortly afterwards attacked by a being called Hacer , whom they can kill thanks to the help of a member of their group who has returned to the base. However, as a result of the struggle, this also loses its own life; not knowing that the group is in front of the entrance to a huge bunker built into the mountain. Obviously, this bunker system was integrated into a disused mine , whereby the existing tunnels were used for expansion.

The search party is the victim of several attacks in the course of which several members are killed and Missy , one of the guardsmen, is kidnapped by a mutant named Gabo . The guards follow the kidnapper's trail into a mine shaft in which a whole clan of cannibalistic, mutated people live. These people were once miners who refused to leave the test site where nuclear weapons were tested. They kidnap women who fall into their hands in order to forcibly produce new offspring - a fate that Missy is also said to share. The unit is broken up into smaller groups after entering the mine. The individual guardsmen are now desperately looking for an exit from the mine shafts as well as for their comrade who has disappeared.

Ultimately, only the aforementioned Amber and Napoleon and Missy survive the violent confrontation with the mutants after being raped several times. The three escape into the open desert before the film ends with the announcement that all of the group's guardsmen are still missing and that the government denies the existence of Sector 16. Meanwhile, one of the mutants observes the three survivors via one of their own monitoring screens.

production

The Hills Have Eyes 2 is a co-production by Craven-Maddalena Films and 20th Century Fox distributed by Fox Atomic in the USA and 20th Century Fox in Germany. Filming began on September 11, 2006 in Ouarzazate , Morocco . The action takes place again in New Mexico . The film was written by Wes Craven , director of the original, which he wrote with his son Jonathan. The film is not a remake of Cravens In Death Valley of the Wolves from 1985, but tells a new, independent story. Furthermore, Peter Locke is involved again as a producer; he already produced the original films.

The film music comes from the composer Trevor Morris , who often only contributes additional music to well-known films or appears as a film music producer. Among other things, he worked as Hans Zimmer's assistant at Ring , Tears of the Sun , Black Hawk Down and Pirates of the Caribbean . At The Ring 2 he worked as a producer on the film music. The special effects come as the first film from the Kurtzman, Nicotero & Berger EFX Group Inc. Other special effects contributed by Rez-Illusion.

publication

The film can be seen worldwide in an uncut R-rated version. The Hills Have Eyes 2 failed the FSK in the unrated version and was approved for the German market by the SPIO with the seal “SPIO / JK-tested: no serious danger to young people”. It has been available for rental in the unrated version since September 24, 2007 and on sale since February 25, 2008; However, it was only open in the shop for a short time, as the BPjM indexed the film in the uncut JK version on March 28, 2008. On April 18, 2008, a version shortened by approx. 1 minute with “No youth release” was published in stores. This step was taken because many dealers do not sell SPIO / JK approved titles and indexed titles cannot be publicly displayed or advertised. While this cut unrated version is running on pay TV, the free TV shows the R-rated version, either shortened or unabridged depending on the time.

Reviews

“Extremely crude horror sequel that postpones the original dispute between two family associations in favor of a military initiation rite. An extremely bloody affair, both ideologically and aesthetically unpleasant. "

“Stylistically, clip filmmaker Martin Weisz delivers solid work that cannot compete with Alexandre Aja's grandiose predecessor. These are two different worlds. Genre fans can take a look at this terror cracker, a kind of 'Resident Evil On The Hills'. Does a film like this have to come to the cinemas? Certainly not. Basically, 'The Hills Have Eyes 2' is classic video store food that is only allowed to jump into the movie theaters because of the big name of its template. "

Grossing results

Shot on a budget of $ 15 million, The Hills Have Eyes 2 grossed $ 20.8 million in the US and an additional $ 16.6 million outside the United States.
