NGC 5520 is a 12.4 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Bootes the northern sky . It is estimated to be 89 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on May 15, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "cF, cS, lE nearly in parallel".
