NGC 5505 is a 13.0 mag bright bar-spiral galaxy with pronounced emission lines of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 191 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 ly in diameter. Due to its unusually bright core , it is believed that NGC 5505 may be a Seyfert or a starburst galaxy .
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on June 6, 1886 .
