Heinz-Gerd Röhling (* 1955 in Kirchhellen ) is a German geologist .

Career

Röhling studied geology from 1977 to 1983 at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and received his doctorate in 1991 from the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . Since 1984 he has worked as a geologist in the oil industry, at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in Hanover and from 1990 at the Schleswig-Holstein State Geological Office; since 1991 at the Geoscientific Joint Tasks (GGA; today Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics, LIAG) and from 1994 at the Lower Saxony State Office for Soil Research . He has a teaching position at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover .

Among other things, Röhling deals with the stratigraphy of the red sandstone in Northern Germany , geotopes and regional geology in Lower Saxony (for example with the colossus of Ostermunzel ) and in neighboring countries. He is a full member of the German stratigraphic sub-commission Perm-Trias.

Röhling has been on the board of the German Society for Geosciences (DGG) since 1993 and has been its treasurer since 1995 . Since the DGG was merged into the German Geological Society - Geological Association (DGGV) in 2015, he has been a member of the management of the DGGV and has been the editor and secretary of the series of the German Geological Society for many years . He is the author and editor of standard geological works on the stratigraphy of red sandstone.

Awards

In 2005 he was awarded the Abraham Gottlob Werner Medal of the DGG for his services to merging the Society for Geosciences (GGW) and the German Geological Society (DGG) to form the German Society for Geosciences (DGG) .
