Hermann Credner Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hermann Credner Prize of the German Society for Geosciences (DGG) is usually an annual prize for outstanding achievements in geology . It is named after Hermann Credner and is awarded to young geoscientists.

In 1911, Friends of Credner founded a foundation (Hermann Credner Foundation) that awarded grants to young geologists, which was coordinated by the DGG. Due to the world wars and inflation, the foundation lost its assets in the meantime, but could be replenished in the 1950s by a foundation of a former student of Credner (Adda von Helldorff). Since 1960, a prize has been awarded annually (since 1970 with a plaque).

The award winners should have a doctorate and habilitation and should be under 40 years of age.
