The northern tip of Peißnitz is a nature reserve in the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0138 is 11.6  hectares in size. It is completely part of the approximately 23 hectare FFH area "Nordspitze Peißnitz and Forstwerder in Halle" and is surrounded by the landscape protection area "Saale". The area has been under protection since 1993 (date of regulation: September 10, 1993). The responsible authority is the Halle district government as the higher nature conservation authority.

The nature reserve is located in the Saale floodplain in the north of the city. It places the northern part of the Peißnitz Island with a natural remnant of alluvial forest under protection. The alluvial forest is a hardwood alluvial forest with some very old English oaks . In addition to steep oak falter Ordinary ash and maple in the nature reserve. Furthermore, sycamore maple , hornbeam , winter and summer linden can be found, but also field elm and white elm , due to the dying of the Dutch elm, but only in small numbers . The alluvial forest has a high proportion of dead wood . It is subject to the natural dynamics of the Saale .

The shrub layer is in the spring of Frühlingsgeophyten as lesser celandine , Yellow Anemone , Windflower , Forest Gold Star and Hollow Corydalis formed. Tall grass and nitrophytes predominate in summer . The Wild Saale is of willow bushes with breakage and white willow and white poplar accompanied. Otherwise, damp herbaceous vegetation settles along the bank and forest edge areas .

The nature reserve is characterized by a species-rich amphibian fauna . So here are u. a. Frog , pond frog , marsh frog , toad , green toad and spadefoot home. Some of the amphibians use the northwest of the conservation area in the district Kröllwitz lying cruiser ponds as spawning waters. Various birds also live here, including the black kite , red kite , tawny owl , black woodpecker and middle woodpecker , all of which also breed here. Stock doves and wrynecks also breed irregularly in the nature reserve.

Mammals are z. As by hedgehogs , squirrels , shrew , yellow-necked mouse , wood mouse , harvest mouse and water bat represented, invertebrates such. B. by the grasshopper Dotted Zartschrecke , the beetles grain beetles as well as the screw shore hygromiidae.

A circular route runs through the nature reserve. In the south, the protected area borders on another hiking trail , to which the Peißnitzexpress Park Railway runs parallel.
