The Abbey and Saale Aue near Planena is a nature reserve in the city of Halle (Saale) and the municipality of Schkopau in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Terrain description

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0364 is around 381  hectares . The city of Halle accounts for 97.28 hectares of this. The area is completely part of the EU bird sanctuary “Saale-Elster-Aue south of Halle” and partly part of the FFH area “Saale-, Elster-, Luppe-Aue between Merseburg and Halle”. In the northeast it borders on the nature reserve " Saale-Elster-Aue near Halle ". The “ Pfingstanger bei Wörmlitz ” nature reserve follows a little downstream . The nature reserve is almost entirely from the conservation area surrounded "Saale". The area has been under protection since 2003 (date of regulation: April 2, 2003). Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the city of Halle (Saale) and the Saalekreis.

The nature reserve, which consists of three sub-areas, lies between Halle (Saale) and an industrial area west of Schkopau in a Saale loop. It places a section of the Saale-Elster-Aue with remains of alluvial forest , extensive reed areas , oxbow lakes , various still waters and agricultural areas under protection. It includes u. a. the abbey and the northern part of the Hohenweidescher Werder, surrounded by an oxbow of the Saale, in the west, the farmer's pastures near Planena in the south and the former Beesener Holz and the Pfarrholz in the east. The area of ​​the sluice island with weir and hydroelectric power station near Planena, which is provided with a fish pass , as well as the sluice and sluice ditch Planena are not part of the nature reserve. The electricity hall itself is also excluded from the scope of the nature conservation ordinance. The nature reserve is largely subject to natural water dynamics and is inundated by the Saale, Weisse Elster or Gerwische or is at least influenced by fumes . The area also represents an important retention area .

The new Erfurt – Leipzig / Halle line crosses the area in the south. The new line itself runs on an almost 6.5 kilometer long viaduct between Ammendorf / Beesen and Planena, an educational drinking water trail with information boards at nine stations through the nature reserve.

vegetation

The remains of the alluvial forest consist primarily of hardwood alluvial forests with ash, common oak and elm. Furthermore, sycamore and Norway maple can be found. The shrub layer is made up of black elder , European eucoat , red dogwood and hawthorn . In the herbaceous layer is dominated in spring Yellow Anemone and forest gold star , summer and late summer Carduus Crispus , swash chervil and Giersch and stinging nettle . In addition, alder-ash forests and softwood alluvial forests falter along the rivers . On the grasslands, which are mainly used as hay meadows, settle. a. Tall violet , dyer's notch , edged leek , Nordic bedstraw , delicate centaury and long-leaved speedwell . Furthermore, species-rich are Hochstauden- and banks Staudenfluren and forest tarry to find. In the rivers, z. B. Flooding water crowfoot . In the area of ​​the abbey north of the lock island, 18 hectares of alluvial forest are reserved as a total reserve for undisturbed development.

The nature reserve is the habitat of a species-rich fauna. So here are u. a. Honey buzzard , black and red kite , marsh harrier , kingfisher , black and small woodpecker , corncrake , red- backed killer , reversible neck , pochard , little grebe , nightingale , common owl , field owl , hawk warbler and tailed tit. All the birds mentioned also breed here. In particular, the pond areas near Planena are frequented by numerous waders and water birds as resting and feeding places. Furthermore, rare wood-dwelling species of beetles , butterflies and other insects , various amphibians and reptiles , including sea ​​frogs and grass snakes as well as bats , etc. are in the nature reserve . a. Large mouse-eared mouse to be found. The waters are habitat u. a. of bitterling and mud whiskers .
