"Bergholz" nature reserve

The Bergholz is a nature reserve in the unified community Petersberg in Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0114 is 79.37  hectares in size. It is completely part of the approximately 181 hectare FFH area "Bergholz north of Halle" and surrounded by the "Petersberg" conservation area. The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961 (date of regulation: March 30, 1961). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Saalekreis.

The nature reserve, which consists of two parts, is located north of Halle (Saale) . It places natural sessile oak and hornbeam forests , rich in winter linden, as remnants of the natural vegetation of the area under protection. The tree layer is dominated by sessile oak and winter linden . In addition, hornbeam , English oak , silver beech and European beech grow . The field elm also occurs increasingly in the northern part of the area . Sycamore maple and common ash also grow on small areas . In the herb layer of the forest communities settle u. a. Turkish lily , dwarf spur , sweet milkweed , musk herb and small balsam .

The forests in the nature reserve are habitat for various birds such as red and black kite , goshawk , long- eared owl , tawny owl , black and middle woodpecker , common raven , stock dove , red backed kite and ortolan , all of which breed here.

Parts of the forests are managed by the State Forestry Office of Saxony-Anhalt. 58 hectares are designated as a natural forest reserve. The two parts of the nature reserve are connected to one another by further wooded areas. Further forest areas adjoin the southern part of the area. Otherwise, the areas are mainly surrounded by agricultural land . The northern sub-area is crossed by a district road in the southeast , the southern sub-area is tangent to a district road.
