Reinhold Huckriede

Reinhold Huckriede (born September 21, 1926 in Hanover ; † October 30, 2014 ) was a German geologist and paleontologist . He was a professor at the University of Marburg .

After military service and captivity (England, Belgium) until 1948 in Hanover, Huckriede completed his Abitur at the evening grammar school in 1951, was accepted into the German National Academic Foundation and studied geology and paleontology in Marburg (as well as a semester in Graz). He received his doctorate in geology in Marburg in 1956 (The geology of the area around Kaisers (Lechtal Alps)). From 1958 he was in the Office for Soil Research in Hanover and from 1959 in the foreign department of the newly founded Federal Institute for Soil Research in Hanover, where he carried out research mainly in Iran. In 1962 he was again as curator and from 1967 chief curator at the University of Marburg. He did research there in Jordan and completed his habilitation on limnic and brackish water mollusc fauna of the Jura and Wealden in northwest Germany. In 1968 he became scientific advisor and in 1971 professor in Marburg.

He was an honorary member of the German Quaternary Association (1994) and, together with Ernst Schönhals, from 1968 to 1978 editor of their journal Eiszeitalter und Gegenwart .

He published on conodonts of the Alpine Triassic and on Quaternary geology and various topics of historical and regional geology. His Quaternary collection went to the Ottoneum .

In 1965 he received the Hermann Credner Prize from the German Society for Geosciences .

In addition to geology and palaeontology, he had a wide range of interests (geography, linguistics, archeology, history, zoology, botany, environmental protection).
