Wilhelm Pesch

Wilhelm Pesch CSsR (born August 11, 1923 in Bellinghoven ; † September 30, 2013 in Mainz ) was a German theologian.

Life

He entered the Redemptorist Order in 1946 and was ordained a priest in Hennef in 1951 . He studied in Hennef, Hawkston , Munich , Paris , Rome and Jerusalem and received his doctorate in 1954 from the University of Munich on the merit theory of Jesus. He completed his habilitation in 1962 with a thesis on the special wage of the pastor. He taught as a lecturer (1955–1959 / 1961–1967) at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Redemptorists in Hennef and with the Steyler missionaries in Sankt Augustin . In 1967 he was appointed professor for the New Testament at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Mainz , where he worked until 1980, and from 1971 to 1973 also as dean of the faculty. In October 1980 he decided to vacate his chair early in order to become involved in clinical pastoral care in the university medicine department of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . After almost 30 years of work in the St. Rochus Clinic Parish , he was retired from this position in 2009.
