Political positions

Wilhelm Priesmeier has been the agricultural policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group a. a. for a competitive agriculture and food industry and improved animal welfare.

Realize animal rights

The SPD politician calls for the rapid introduction of testing and approval procedures for mass-produced barn equipment for the species-appropriate keeping of farm animals. Animals are living things and deserve respect. Stables, keeping and fattening must therefore not violate animal welfare rights. The link between animal husbandry and the area is indispensable for him in order to get a grip on the nutrient surpluses in nitrogen and phosphate from the manure.

Rural Policy

Rural areas are more than just agriculture. Bundling and better coordination of the political areas relevant to rural areas is another political goal of Wilhelm Priesmeier. Priesmeier's actions focus on the further development of the joint task of agricultural structure and coastal protection (GAK) into a joint task of rural development. Since the billions in direct payments to agriculture no longer have any prospects after 2020, Wilhelm Priesmeier advocates using the funds released to pay farmers, for example, higher animal welfare standards and environmental measures.

New fertilizer rules

In order to better control the environmental compatibility of the farms' nitrogen management, Wilhelm Priesmeier calls for the introduction of a so-called farm gate balance. It measures the amount of nitrogen that gets into an agricultural operation - via the fertilizer or animal feed. It also records what leaves the farm in the form of agricultural products, from plants to milk and meat to eggs. The difference has remained on the field and a limit value must be observed for this nitrogen surplus.
