Wilhelm August Ludwig Sahm (born January 30, 1873 in Kreuzburg in East Prussia , † December 30, 1944 in Königsberg in East Prussia) was a German schoolboy, local historian and chronicler .

Life

Wilhelm Sahm's parents were the master baker and farmer Ludwig Sahm and Johanna Pelikan. He went to school in his home town of Kreuzburg, then attended the preparatory institute in Lötzen and then completed the teachers' seminar in Preussisch Eylau . In 1895 he took up a position as a teacher in Goldbach , Wehlau district , where he married Hedwig Kledtke († 1945) in 1899. In the same year he became a middle school teacher in Königsberg. In 1811 he took over the post of rector of the Herderschule, and in 1921 he was appointed to the magistrate's school board. In this capacity he retired in 1938.

Sahm worked intensively as a local researcher and dealt in particular with the history of Natangen . He published numerous articles in newspapers and magazines and published city chronicles about his hometown Kreuzburg (1901) and Friedland i. Ostpr. (1913) and Labiau (1939). He wrote a scientifically important chronicle about the plague that broke out in East Prussia in 1710 (1905) and also compiled a history of the Königsberger Handwerkerverein (1909) and provided a description of the conditions in East Prussia during the French era (1912). A print-ready manuscript on the history of the town of Ragnit , which he also prepared , has been missing since 1945. He is also the author of several school books on the local history of Königsberg, East Prussia and the Northeast Mark, which are distributed in many editions. His local history of Kurlands (1917) was often used in school lessons in East Prussia.
