biography
Family, education and work
Schindelhauer was the son of a master carpenter. He attended elementary school from 1894 and from 1902 to 1904 the higher commercial school in Hanover and in between completed a commercial apprenticeship. He then worked as a clerk. From 1914 to 1917 he served as a soldier.
From 1917 to 1932 he was a commercial clerk at the Hansa-Lloyd factory in Bremen-Hastedt. Since 1929 he was an employee representative here. At the end of the 1920s, Schindelhauer built up the sales organization. After the takeover of Hans-Lloyd by Carl FW Borgward and Wilhelm Tecklenborg, he worked for the Borgward works from 1932 to 1957, and from 1938 as commercial director.
When Carl Borgward was initially not allowed to run the factories after 1945 because of his membership in the NSDAP , Schindelhauer, as he was a former SPD politician, headed the factories as custodian (administrator). From 1945 to 1948, he and his employees rebuilt part of the car factory from parts that were still available at the Borgwardwerk Sebaldsbrück. In 1948, after Borgward returned to his company, Schindelhauer successfully managed all sales of cars and trucks. When he left the company in 1957 at the age of 70, Karl Monz became his successor in the company.
politics
Schindelhauer became a member of the SPD in 1918 and was in the union.
After the First World War , he was a member of the Bremen National Assembly in 1919/1920 and a member of the Bremen citizenship from 1920 to 1927 .
After 1945 he was back in the SPD. He was co-founder and deputy chairman of the employers' association of the metal industry in the Lower Weser region.
