Wilhelm Schrader (local history researcher)

Wilhelm Schrader (born November 19, 1893 in Braunschweig , † June 26, 1978 in Helmstedt ) was a German homeland researcher , journalist and publisher.

Life

Wilhelm Schrader was born in Braunschweig in 1893, where he attended school. From 1911 he worked for the textile wholesaler Pfeiffer & Schmidt , then at the book and postage stamp dealer Karl Pfankuch in Braunschweig. Subsequently, he was an independent philatelist until 1928 . From 1931 to 1951 he worked as a publishing editor at the Appelhans & Co. publishing house . There he came into contact with the Braunschweigische Landesverein für Heimatschutz and its association magazine Braunschweigische Heimat . He was first their editor and then together with Werner Flechsig main editor . Schrader moved to Helmstedt in 1944.

Schrader published on topics related to the history of the Braunschweig region and postal history. From 1953 to 1958 he published 30 essays on professors at the University of Helmstedt , and from 1952 to 1955 his series of articles in the Helmstedter Professorenhäuser appeared in 63 episodes in the Helmstedter Allgemeine Zeitung . Schrader had worked for the Archive for German Postal History since 1953 . He died in June 1978 at the age of 84 in Helmstedt.
